Working for government. Tax deductions for eg stationary and courses that I have paid for myself?
By Marc Sevitz · Updated
Do you work as a salaried employee for the government?
Yes, I earn a monthly salary. I work full time as a therapist for a government school and I receive an IRP5.
Unfortunately then you will not be able to deduct these expenses. While it is brilliant work you are doing and even more amazing that you are spending your own money on these extras you cannot deduct them for tax purposes. You should try and get the department or the school to refund you these amounts.
Thank you for your prompt response. No one else (not even SARS) could give me an answer. I really appreciate it.i will refer to you.
Glad I could help and thank you for the referrals. Keep up the excellent work you are doing!
