Why do I have to pay SARS?

I have submitted by tax return, but I owe SARS R1200, why do owe I them money? I am a straight salaried employee who has no other income/expenditure, etc.

Were you trying to file the 2016 tax return? If so, it appears that your employer deducted your income protection contribution when they worked out your PAYE which is incorrect. Income Protection is no longer deductible for tax purposes.
