Why am I being verified?

I just filed my tax return and they selected me for verification. All my documentation that I have is correct. This has never happened before, can it be because I have joined a medical scheme in this financial year that they require the relevant information? I did not have a medical in previous years?

Yes, SARS usually audits when there is a change in circumstances from year to year. If everything is in order then there will not be a problem. SARS will issue a Letter of Completion when they have finished the audit following which you will receive a refund if due one.
