I received a message stating that SARS is compensating me with a certain amount from Annual Tax Returned service 2016, with a ref no. What should I do next?

Did you receive it via email? And if so, from whom?
Are you expecting a tax refund from SARS? ie have you submitted a tax return for 2015?

I received it via sms and I was not informed by anybody of any TAX Refund. I mean, wouldn't my employer inform me of things like this, so I can get all my documentation and I'd and etc. ready or what?

It sounds like it may be a scam. It doesn't make sense that tax year 2016 has been referred to as this year is not complete yet so there is no chance you would be receiving a refund for it.

It might be best to call SARS on 0800 007 277 and ask them what it relates to, just to make sure.
