Tax deduction for partial month worked?

I started working on the 23 March. When ii receive my pro rata pay of R3000 ( from April would be R9500). They deducted tax from the pro rata pay. Is that correct to deduct tax from a pro rata pay?

Yes that is correct as they would have worked it out based on you working a full month/full year and deducted the tax accordingly. Please check with our SARS income tax calculator to confirm.
