Selected for audit and need tax clearance certificate?

I have been selected for a SARS audit. I need a tax clearance certificate to continue my business, but it appears that SARS will not issue one. Where do I go from here? It would appear I go out of business because I have been told by SARS that the audit process takes anywhere from 3 to 12 months to complete. Is there anything I can do?

You should be able to apply for a TCC because you have submitted your return even though you are being audited, have you tried to apply or have they just told you that you won't be successful.

Yes I have applied twice six days ago and have heard nothing. I phoned them and they said that I could not get a TCC if I am being audited which could take 3 - 12 months! JAG

Their new policies are quite tight. We suggest going into an actual SARS branch and sitting with someone to try and sort it out as quickly as possible given that you could lose your business.
