I am a South African citizen, working in the USA (on a work visa/permit). I have been studying and then working in the USA for the full tax year (Mar 2015 - Feb 2016). In total, I have been away from South Africa for 2 years. I pay taxes in the USA. Am I required to submit tax returns in South Africa? Do I just submit a nil amount, do I not submit anything at all or do I submit my US earnings and get double taxed? Thanks.

Are you registered for income tax? If yes, and you did not earn any income in South Africa you will need to file a How to submit a nil return to ensure that your tax affairs are in order, should you return to South Africa.

Register for TaxTim and let us help you file this year.
