Refund withheld due to supporting documentation denied
By Marc Sevitz · Updated
As this was my first year registering and submitting my tax return, I submitted all tax returns up to 2008. I was thus requested to provide supporting documentation for the 2013 tax year. I uploaded my IRP5 document as proof via SARS eFiling, but this was denied. I do not have any other documentation as I am not claiming for any expenses. I do not have medical aid, nor received travel/petrol allowance etc. I do however contribute to a retirement annuity fund which I have included in my 2014 and 2015 tax return as I only started contributing in Sept 2013. Would I have to include the income tax certificates received for my contribution for 2014 & 2015 as proof for the 2013 tax year? Very confused.. Please assist. I have a refund due, but this will be withhold until the above has been resolved.
If you started contributing to the RA Fund in Sep 2013, these contributions would fall into your 2014 tax return.
Therefore the tax certificate for Sep 2013 - Feb 2014, should be submitted as proof for your 2014 tax return.
The tax certificate for March 2014-Feb 2015 should be submitted as proof for your 2015 tax return.

Thanks for your response. I later realized that I was supposed to upload two certificates for the 2013 tax year, this is why my documentation was denied. I had left company no.1 in May 2012 (been with them since Nov 2006) and started at a new company in Mid June 2012. Because I had left company no.1, I had not received my IRP5 when this was issued. I have sent company no.1 and email requesting this, hoping to get a response soon.
Only a pleasure!
