My employer pays my med aid but its my money, how is this a fringe benefit?

My employer pays my medical aid contributions but its coming out of my pocket. (CTC) it shows as income on my payslip. I incurred R7000 worth of medical expenses and am not getting anything back, is this correct.

You have gotten your credit via a reduction in the PAYE - look on your IRP5 under 4116 it will appear there. Also look on your ITA34, at the bottom under rebates it will be included in that amount.

For the other expenses you only get a refund if you exceed the SARS thresholds for out of pocket expenses.
