Must I go to SARS annually or only if my annual salary is above a certain amount?

By Marc Sevitz · Updated

I have never registered for tax as I have only now completed my first year with a job
How much do I have to earn to register for tax?

You need to earn more than R67 111 to pay tax, but you should register. You can obtain a SARS tax number By clicking the link and following the instructions.

Okay because I do pay tax every month, what I've heard
Is people say that even if you do pay tax you must still go to SARS annually or you can owe them money. However I'm already registered with a tax number and pay monthly, so I'm not so clear on the matter as it is my first year paying tax.

If you are paying tax then you can go to SARS to complete your tax return and maybe get a refund. You will also be able to do this via the TaxTim site by registering for TaxTim

There may be a penalty, SARS could impose a R250 penalty, but often they waiver this.
