Is a verification of income tax return the same as an audit?

I know SARS says 21 days but has anyone's verification been complete and paid out before 21 days?
It is not the same as an audit, despite SARS using the same terminology. These are often random and computer selected while an audit is more focused and deliberate.

SARS will send you a letter of completion which will signify if the assessment has been concluded.
Does it really take 21 days?
It can take longer sometimes, all depends on where you are in line in the SARS verification. The average is about 5 working days.
