How long will it take to be refunded after resubmitting my tax return?

Hi Tim. I submitted my tax returns and did not claim on my travel allowance, now SARS sends me an SMS stating I owe R8750. If I were to resubmit and claim on my travel allowance, how long will it take for SARS to refund, and what's gonna happen on the amount they say I owe? Regards Themba

You can click on the "request correction" button on eFiling and then make your travel expense claim. This will result in a new assessment which would be the correct one. However did you keep a logbook?

It will depend on whether, after you resubmit, you will be requested to provide supporting documents or not. If not then the refund could be a few days, if you do need to submit supporting documents then it could take a few weeks still.

The new assessment will take that amount into account and provide an overall balance owed to SARS or owed by SARS to you, having included the new deduction for a travel allowance (if they allow it).

Sars did ask for supporting document eg;logbook.
I did send it with in format they requested.

How long will it now take for a payout and will this be also the last thing they will ask from me.
Does this mean they are done with the auditing?

They will send you a Letter of Completion when they have finished with the verification which will show the results of your audit. This could take a few days or weeks so you would need to be patient as SARS only sets guidelines not definite time frames.

It could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks or possibly months, so be patient and you will receive a letter from SARS. It usually takes 10 days or so.
