Freelance online income -qualify for turnover tax?

By Marc Sevitz · Updated

If I earn my income doing admin and bookkeeping through Odesk(an online service) from home, do I qualify for turnover tax? I would really appreciate an answer. Thank you for your service. It has helped me in the past.

Turnover Tax is only available if you are earning less than R1m per year.

Yes, the earning is well below that, but would I qualify if it's admin and bookkeeping related? Is that not a service industry? It is for an individual not a company or trust.

If you fit into:

"means a service in the field of accounting, actuarial science, architecture, auctioneering, auditing, broadcasting, consulting, draftsmanship, education, engineering, financial service broking, health, information technology, journalism, law, management, real estate broking, research, sport, surveying, translation, valuation or veterinary science;"

Then you will not qualify, so doing admin and book keeping would fall under the accounting exclusion.
