Earning Pounds whilst residing in South Africa as a tax resident?

By Marc Sevitz · Updated

I'm a South African currently residing in the UK (and have done so for the past 10 years). I will be returning to South Africa as a resident but will still be earning pounds and paying tax on my pounds in the UK. What is my obligation towards SARS?

To declare this income and then the taxes paid which will reduce any taxes paid in South Africa. What is the nature if this income?

This is a salary I'm earning from the UK. I basically do Marketing work for a UK based company and get paid in pounds and also pay taxes then in the UK for this. Thanks for your kind assistance!

Your obligation would be the difference between the taxes owed in SA and the taxes paid in the UK. SARS allows you to use the taxes already paid as a rebate or credit against those owed in SA due to you being a SA tax resident.
