Hi Tim, Before I start a Tax Return I need to ask a few questions. I currently am working in the UK. I started in July 2014 to date. I submitted a tax return in SA for the 2013/2014 tax year, but my last income was January 2013 (paid tax on a Pension/provident fund early cash out for this period). I keep a current address, and still have a bank account, and assets such as a car, etc in SA. I do not own property. Under what circumstances would I be required to submit a tax return in SA, and if so, how would I avoid double taxation on my earnings in the UK, if I in-fact did submit a tax return to SA? Would my residency status be in question, as I do tax return to SA every year, but as yet do not derive income from both countries, but may in the future? Is the process as simple as declaring a nil income on my SA tax return? Regards Jeremy

Did you not earn any income whatsoever from 1 March 2014 - 30 June 2014 in SA?

Hi Tim, that's correct. I only started earning an Income in the UK from July 2014. My last form of employment in SA was January 2013. I was unemployed from 2013 Jan(SA)- 2014 June(SA)

Yes you would declare a nil tax return in SA, provided you are not earning any other income from South Africa other than interest less than R23 800 from the bank.
