Do I need to pay tax?

I earn R5000/month without any further benefits from my employer. Do I need to register and pay tax?

No you do not need to pay tax as you fall under the annual threshold of R70 700 per annum. You should register as a taxpayer however. Follow the link to find out how to get a SARS tax number
