Dear Tax Tim. I have not been employed since November 2014, do I need to de-register at SARS? Or can I simply submit a NIL return this year?

You must not de-register even if you are unemployed for a period.

However the 2015 return is for the period, 1 March 2014 to 28 February 2015. You will need to submit details of your earnings for 1 March 2014 up to your date of resignation in November 2014. If you are unemployed for the whole of the 2016 tax year (i.e 1 March 2015 to 28 February 2016) then you can submit a NIL return.

Please register for TaxTim and let us assist you to complete and submit your Tax returns to SARS.

Thank you so much! I just realized I made a typo, sorry about that! My official unemployment date was November 2013, so I submitted my Tax return for that season, no need to submit any documents for this season? Just a NIL return then?
