Do I complete my tax return if I started work in April 2015 earning R8000?
By Evan Robinson · Updated
I started working at my current company in April 2015 earning a gross of R8000, before I was earning R5800. Do I file for tax?
If your salary was R5,800 per month previously, you earned below the tax threshold for the 2015 tax year (March 2014 - Feb 2015) - you would not have paid tax and therefore there is no need to file a Tax Return.
For the 2016 tax year you would be paying tax on your current salary which is above the tax threshold, so you should file a tax return for the 2016 tax year (1 March 2015 - 28 Feb 2016); filing season opens 1 July 2016 for the 2016 tax year.
