Depreciation for computer under R7000 value

Some years ago SARS advised me that I could write off in year one capital goods for my business (computer) under R7k in value (accelerated depreciation).

Is this correct?

Yes this is correct as long as the cost is less than R7000 and not more than that amount and you are trying to depreciate a part of the asset.
