If I donate to a charity and I receive a tax certificate, would I receive a tax refund for a portion of that amount? If so, how much of the amount would be refunded?

Yes, when you submit the tax return you will indicate that you have donated to a PBO and you will be refunded the amount contributed multiplied by your average tax rate.
