Can you be taxed more on your salary by employer?

It shouldn't be the case unless you have earned other bonuses or allowances.

I get R15000 a month and only received R11949. I don't get any bonuses and any other reductions. So I just wanted to know how its possible to get taxed that much. It seemed a lot to me...

Please make use of our SARS income tax calculator to see the tax you should pay on your salary. It would be best to discuss with your employer and ask for a payslip so you can see what deductions they have put through. Perhaps they contribute to a pension or medical aid for you?
