Can I claim travel allowance on a car I use daily, but is registered and financed in my spouses name

By Marc Sevitz · Updated

We have a vehicle registered in my spouses name & finance is in her name as well. I am am the primary driver of the car. She does not have car allowance at work but I do. We keep a logbook and records. Can I claim travel allowance on my tax return for this car?

The monthly payments and insurance comes off my spouses salary (bank employee, so better financing rates)

You can claim the deduction even though the car does not belong to you. The point of the deduction is to show that the business travel is not taxable and therefore all the values of the car help decide what can be claimed x the business travel which gives you the deduction.
