How it started
How the TaxTim Story Began
One rainy day in 2011, co-founder Evan sat down to try SARS eFiling for the first time. He quickly got stressed and frustrated with all the tax terminology and forms, and was confused about how to declare his incomes and expenses.
So he visited his friend and co-founder Marc, a Chartered Accountant and expert Tax Practitioner. Marc and Evan had a simple conversation, and that evening Evan was able to complete his tax return online quite easily.
That night Evan wondered: "What if I could build a digital version of Marc, so that everyone could have their very own tax man to chat to, whenever they wanted, at an affordable price?"
Together, Marc and Evan raised seed funding from Google and started building their ideal tax service — combining the very best human tax expertise with advanced chatbot technology.
Now TaxTim and his support team help over 4 million South Africans every year to Make Tax Easy.
