Why does it appear to be so difficult t upload a document on e-filing?

What is the size of the document? Generally you cannot upload a document bigger than 1.8mb or it could be that the type of document you are trying to upload isn't allowed. I suggest making all your documents .pdf and trying that.
Not sure of the size but yes they are all .pdf's.
Check whether the file size is bigger than 1.8mb, if it is not and the uploader won't accept it then you may need to phone SARS on 0800 00 7277 to see if they can increase the loading size for you.
