What is my claimable medical contribution as a pensioner?

By Marc Sevitz · Updated

I am a pensioner and my part of my medical contribution is paid by my pension fund from my previous employer. I don't see any of this reflected on the IRP5 from my pension fund, but I do get a medical certificate from Discovery indicating the full contributions, along with a letter from the pension fund indicating what was paid by said pension fund.

What is claimable? The full contribution, or only the amount that I pay?

In this case you would only enter the total amount paid to the medical aid because, and I am only assuming here, the pension payout each month is reduced by the medical aid payment so in effect you are paying the entire amount anyway, just from different sources.

Is there a tax amount appearing on the IRP5 from the pension fund?
